Jazz Gallery Residency

In late May, I’ll be starting a month-long composing residency at The Jazz Gallery, in NYC. Needless to say, I’m extremely thankful and thrilled to have this opportunity. Continuing my recent explorations on the intersection of jazz, flamenco music and new music, I'm already working full steam on a new project called Jazz Miniatures for Double Quartet. For the very first time, I’m writing for a string quartet, and so far I've been enjoying my research! Checking out a lot of Bartok, Shostakovitch, Beethoven, Glass, Ravel, Arvo Part... It’s an exhilarating and terrifying experience at the same time. All I can say is that I’m really enjoying the research and starting to draft some music that I like.

I’m also honored to have an amazing lineup of musicians with me. The lineup is: Ben Wendel - saxophones and bassoon, Jason Rigby - saxophones, flutes and clarinets, Satoshi Takeishi - drums and percussion, Sara Caswell - violin, Antonia Nelson - violin, Lois Martin - viola, Jody Redhage - cello and me on bass.

I’ll do a short private kickoff quartet gig at the Gallery for friends and fans only on May 23rd. You are all invited, free admission! Then the premiere concerts are on Friday June 22nd and Saturday June 23rd. Hope to see you all there!
